What To Wear For A Family Photoshoot
My guide to the best styles, colors and patterns that will photograph beautifully during our session
Hi There!
First off, I am SO excited for our session together! Choosing outfits that feel like you and photograph beautifully can be overwhelming, but don't worry, my styling guide will walk you through my top tips.

Colors Matter
For my style of editing and locations such as the beach and Downtown St. Augustine, the colors that photograph best are softer warm neutrals and pastels. Whites, beiges, soft blues and soft greens are going to be your best friend!

Movement Is Magic
Choosing clothing that is flowy or layered is fantastic for our shoot. I aim to have lots of movement and true, candid moments on our shoot, so wearing a dress or skirt that we can twirl, walk and more is going to be beautiful.

Keep Patterns Simple
Patterns can be fun, especially for beach sessions where the setting is more minimal.
For busier locations like downtown areas, I recommend sticking to solids so your outfits don’t compete with the surroundings.
If you’d like to include a pattern, the best approach is to have one person wear it, and style everyone else in solid colors pulled from that pattern.

Trending Now: Linen

Linen is having a moment in 2026 for sessions because it’s effortless, timeless, and photographs beautifully in natural light.
Why it works:
Soft texture, great movement, and pairs perfectly with neutrals and earthy tones.
Best pieces:
Linen dresses, button-downs, wide-leg pants, and matching sets.
Best colors:
Ivory, sand, oatmeal, soft sage, and muted coastal blues.
Avoid:
Overly bright colors, heavy layers, or anything too stiff or structured.
Styling note: Linen is meant to feel relaxed. Natural wrinkles only add to its charm in photos.
